Barrie Public Library’s Local Author Book Market

The Barrie Public Library is interested in local authors! You can apply to have your book added to their collection if:

  1. You are an author who currently resides in Simcoe County.
  2. Your book has been published within the past three years.

If you are interested in the library adding your publication to their collection, please fill out the Local Author Application Form available on our website. If you’ve not yet checked it out, take a look at our Local Authors page to see how we can support local authors here at the library!

Please note that we do not accept donations of materials from Local Authors to have their work added to our collection.  Due to the volume of submissions, we are unable to connect with authors individually, nor can we confirm whether we have decided to add the work to our collection.

How to Explore Local Author Books in the Barrie Public Library Catalogue

  • We prefer to feature our local authors in our popular and ever rotating displays, as such we don’t have a separate location for local authors books.
  • To encourage discovery while customers are browsing, we have local author stickers on the spine of our local author books; customers can seek these out or happen upon them. Browsing accounts for much of our library borrowing!
  • Search ‘Local Author’ in the Library catalogue.
    • Stay tuned for a BPL Tik Tok post later this month that I filmed last week on how to search for local author books in the library catalogue and find them if you are browsing by the local author sticker!
    • In the meantime, to search in the library catalogue, https://barrie.bibliocommons.com/,  type in ‘local author’ OR limit to subject in the drop-down menu and then search ‘local author’.
    • As with all our items in the catalogue you can limit to adult, kids or teen authors/content as well
    • View the screen captures below for a ‘how to’:
