Finding work through Editors Canada

As a member of Editors Canada, you have access to the following tools and resources to help you find work.

  • Online Directory of Editors (ODE): This searchable electronic resource helps potential employers find the right editor fast. Members and student affiliates can list their services in the ODE at any time by completing an online form and paying the required fee. Need help getting started? Check out this free webinar for tips on writing an effective ODE profile.
  • National Job Board: Visit the job board to learn about full-time, part-time and freelance opportunities across the country. Check back regularly because jobs are posted on an ongoing basis.
  • Social media groups. Postings for various types of positions are also circulated informally via social media (see above).
  • Of course, one of the best ways to get editorial jobs is to know other editors! See below!

Volunteering

When you joined Editors Canada, you joined a large and dynamic community of editors. We offer several ways you can network and benefit from the knowledge, experience and connections of our members.

The number one way to get involved? Volunteering is our best-kept secret. Through getting involved in the association’s committees and activities, you will make important connections and develop your skills. You can volunteer at your local branch (twig level), or at a national level.

Students

The student relations committee is for Editors Canada student affiliates and provides a welcoming space to connect with other members and editing students.

The committee hosts the Editors Canada Student Affiliates Facebook group. This private group is for Editors Canada student affiliates, full-time and part-time students in editing or editing-related programs, and full-time post-secondary students interested in becoming an editor. The group also welcomes all Editors Canada members who want to contribute their expertise and insights to the conversation. Join the group for friendly discussions, helpful information, and access to student socials and the student affiliate book club—all geared towards new and student editors.
